A Sydney driver was confused by the blue line on Stanwell Parkway but later found out why.
Many have made their guesses about the meaning of this line, many believed that it was the logo of the 2000 Olympic marathon route.
However, the line was actually drawn in 2022 to mark the route of the UCI Road World Championships, one of the five biggest annual sporting events in the world.
They said the line was painted on a road near her mother’s home in the seaside town of Stanwell Park, near Wollongong.
A Reddit user wondered what the blue lines on Stanwell Parkway were for. It later turned out that it was the route of the UCI Road World Championships.
One user wrote: “This is an old photo of the 2000 Olympic Marathon course,” to which another replied: “I think they repaint some parts every now and then out of nostalgia.”
”I remember the blue lines from the 2000 Olympics. So sad to see them go. Some of them lasted almost 10 years. But this one is a little too new,” a third commented.
”It’s usually a racing line. I just ran the Berlin Marathon and followed their blue line all over the city,” someone added.
The route passes through Wollongong, allowing riders to stay on the road. The UCI Road World Championships is an annual road cycling event attended by over 1,000 riders.
Eventually people gave the correct answer, saying it was the route for the 2022 UCI World Championships road race in Wollongong.
One source explained: “Transport for New South Wales began marking the route in blue this week to mark the occasion.”
This annual event is the World Road Cycling Championships, which is held each year in a different location around the world. This year, the competition will be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Transport for New South Wales said the championships “brought cycling fans to Wollongong” and that the route would no longer be serviced and would eventually disappear.
