High-quality weighted blankets use technology called deep sensory therapy (DTP) to help you relax and improve your sleep quality. We’ve rounded up the best weighted blankets in the UK for 2025, including top brands like Remy and Emma.
Known for their sleep-inducing and anxiety-relieving properties, weighted blankets have become a must-have for many of us these days. They help us unwind and feel more calm and relaxed at night – both of which are key to a good night’s sleep. The benefits of weighted blankets are also backed by science. The key to success lies in a technique called deep pressure therapy (DPT), and while it sounds complicated, it can be described as follows: applying gentle pressure to your body through distributed weights can make you feel calmer, more secure, and ultimately more likely to fall asleep. Think of it as a stress-relieving hug in blanket form, with the added bonus that it won’t be easy to let go.
Of course, it’s not a cure-all (you’ll want to make sure you have the best mattress and pillows to give yourself the best chance of fully relaxing), but snuggling up in the best weighted blanket can significantly improve your overall mood and reduce your stress levels, turning you into a truly relaxing sleeper.
Whether you’re looking to buy a weighted blanket to get a good night’s sleep or a weighted blanket to snuggle up on the couch with, we’ve rounded up some of the best weighted blankets below to help you make an easier purchasing decision, no matter your style, age, or budget.
In this guide, we’ve detailed each of our favorite weighted blankets, highlighting their pros and cons, as well as what to look for. But if you just want a quick overview of the best weighted blankets, check out our recommendations below.
The table below briefly describes the features of some of our favorite weighted blankets to help you understand how they differ.
To create this guide, we tried and tested some of the best weighted blankets on the market and rated their effectiveness on a number of criteria. These criteria include material, feel, filling and cover material, ease of cleaning, number of different weight options, and, ultimately, comfort. We hired a team of testers and experts to help us with the testing process, so the following recommendations come from various GQ editors.
Of course, weighted blankets are quite cumbersome to move around, so in some cases we couldn’t get under the blanket ourselves. In this case, we make decisions based on the available specifications and only choose brands that we are familiar with and like.
Daphne Bugler, GQ’s senior business writer, has tried and tested nearly every brand of weighted blanket on the market and has been writing extensively about sleep, mattresses, and interior design for more than four years.
Her expertise is combined with that of Britta O’Boyle, a journalist who has covered the sleep and interior design industries for 14 years. They collaborated with sleep experts and enlisted GQ’s team of more than 30 style experts to get their take on the trends and aesthetics that will be loved by everyone in 2025 to make sure this guide has it all covered.
There’s a lot to know about weighted blankets, so we’ve broken down some of the most common questions to help you figure it out before you decide which weighted blanket is right for you.
It’s amazing how many uses there are for a weighted blanket — far more than just a regular blanket, throw, or mattress. Sure, you can use their cozy, snuggly extra weight to keep you warm, but the main reason you’d buy a weighted blanket (as opposed to a regular throw) is for the added benefits it provides. Weighted blankets mimic the feeling of being hugged and can be effective in helping relieve stress, reduce anxiety, and promote sleep by relaxing the nervous system. The way a weighted blanket works is that its pressure encourages the body to relax, which can be helpful for a variety of people.
However, scientific research provides limited evidence that weighted blankets actually help relieve anxiety. In a 2019 article published by Harvard Medical School, an associate professor of psychiatry explained that “there is currently no robust scientific research to support the claim” that weighted blankets can reduce anxiety. However, in 2025, a Swedish study “provided basic evidence for the effectiveness of weighted blankets in alleviating insomnia and daytime fatigue in people with mental illness,” ultimately recommending more research. If you have a medical condition or are unsure whether a weighted blanket is right for you, be sure to consult with your doctor.
Our team split into groups and tried out different weighted blankets to see if they lived up to their reputation for improving sleep and reducing anxiety. The feedback from everyone who tried them was overwhelmingly positive, and while many of us don’t have room for a weighted blanket in our homes, it was worth it. Our sleep quality improved, we felt more relaxed, and we had a calmer night. Overall, we highly recommend the experience.
When shopping for a weighted blanket, size, material, and filling are important, but nothing is more important than choosing the right weight. While some brands only offer one thin option, you can customize a weighted blanket to suit your body shape and preferences. According to the Sleep Foundation, “as a general rule, a weighted blanket should be about 10 percent of your body weight,” with the ideal weight being between 5 and 12 percent. It also depends on what weight you feel most comfortable with, but remember: If you’re buying for a child, always read the brand’s instructions carefully before purchasing.
As mentioned above, choosing a weighted blanket depends on your weight, as well as your personal preference for the weight of the weighted blanket. It is generally recommended that the weight of the weighted blanket be around 10% of your body weight. If you weigh 200 pounds or more, a 20 pound blanket would be appropriate. However, those who weigh significantly less or significantly more than this may need to look for lighter or heavier options. If you are truly unsure, consult your doctor.
Weighted blankets work on the principle of deep sensory therapy (DTP). Applying pressure to the body with extra weight (usually plastic or glass balls) can stimulate the brain to produce the feel-good hormone serotonin, similar to a warm hug or snuggle. Weighted blankets, by distributing pressure and weight evenly across the body, have been shown to reduce anxiety and stress, and help you feel more relaxed, all of which contribute to eight hours of cozy rest.
“Weighted blankets have been used for a long time, especially for children with autism or behavioral disorders,” said Dr. Christina Kusin, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. “While some people swear by the effectiveness of these blankets, unfortunately there is no conclusive evidence,” Dr. Kusin said. But she added, “Weighted blankets may help relieve anxiety or insomnia.”
The science behind weighted blankets may not be conclusive, but studies have shown that deep pressure therapy can help improve sleep and relieve anxiety. In a study conducted by Remy, 83% of 300 participants said weighted blankets helped them sleep better, and 90% felt less stressed.
Weighted blankets, while simple, actually have two distinct features. First, look at the duvet cover. The best duvet covers are usually made of cotton or bamboo, which ensures that the blanket is soft enough to use with or without a duvet cover. Second, look at the filling of the blanket, which we think is glass beads. If you want a weighted blanket without beads, brands like Sommio are also a good option. For practical reasons, it’s best to choose a washable duvet cover – not to mention the times we’ve had to lug heavy blankets to the laundry room…
As with anything, a higher price tag doesn’t necessarily mean better, but it does mean you can usually find better quality materials that will last longer. We’ve tried to provide the best options by listing a range of weighted blankets below to suit any budget.
You’ve probably heard of Aeyla’s four award-winning products, and for good reason. The Mela weighted blanket feels incredibly luxurious and is one of the most comfortable options on the market. It’s made from 100% cotton for a soft feel and is infused with anti-rust glass beads to add extra weight while still hugging your body for unrivaled comfort. This weighted blanket has a removable cover for easy washing and is reversible with warm quilted fleece on top and cool cotton on the bottom, making it the perfect weighted blanket for any season.
It promises to be an effective solution to a range of issues, from poor sleep quality and stress to anxiety, worry and even overthinking. It markets itself as the perfect solution for improving sleep and relieving stress. Of course, results may vary from person to person as everyone reacts differently to different things, but there’s no denying the comfort it provides, with its different thicknesses, plus a nice velvety feel and cooling compartments, making it one of the best weighted blankets on the market. It’s machine washable, too, for added convenience.
Emma has long been one of our favorite sleep brands, thanks in large part to its expertise in mattress manufacturing. Aside from the comfortable memory foam, the brand’s weighted blankets have recently caught our attention. While only one weight is available, the removable, washable cover is the main selling point of this blanket. Plus, the impressive 10-year warranty is also a pretty attractive feature, especially for those who want long-term peace of mind.
Instead of cotton or synthetics, it’s made from 100% bamboo, which helps regulate your temperature as you sleep, which is especially important when you’re carrying 7kg. The bamboo fibre material also has a luxurious silky feel and is easier to keep clean. However, it’s still machine washable at 30 degrees and flat dryable. However, always double check that the item doesn’t exceed your washing machine’s weight limit. In general, it’s best to just wash the duvet cover (sold separately), as it’s machine washable at 40 degrees.
Given our love for Simba hybrid mattresses, pillows, and duvets, it’s no surprise that we’re equally obsessed with the brand’s weighted blankets. This weighted blanket is made using nanobead technology, which packs thousands of glass beads evenly into a soft, replaceable bag, eliminating the hassle of uneven weight distribution. Plus, this duvet cover is breathable, washable, and made from 100% cotton, so you’ll be able to keep your blanket clean and hygienic while also protecting yourself from overheating, even if you decide to leave it on all night.
It’s designed to help your body transition from the fight-or-flight response to stress and into a state of relaxation, leaving you feeling calmer and more confident with every use. Plus, it comes with a comfort lining layer to provide extra cushioning between you and the glass nanoparticles for a more luxurious rest. The only downside? It only comes in one grey colour, and you might want to consider adding a duvet cover to it to better match your bedding and soft furnishings.
Kudd.ly weighted blankets range from 5 to 7 kg, which is slightly lighter than some weighted blankets on the market that start at 7 or 8 kg. If you want to know if a weighted blanket is right for you, Kudd.ly is the perfect choice. Apart from the weight, it is the fleece material of these blankets that makes them so appealing: the soft and cozy fabric is perfect for keeping you warm in the winter, and the MicroCool fabric is effective in preventing overheating.
The filling is made from micro glass beads, and we didn’t rate it as highly as other knitted options, but this mattress from Kudd.ly is highly breathable and comes with a 30-day trial period so you can see if it’s right for you. It comes in both standard and double versions, although if you and your partner want different weights, it’s best to go for the two smaller sizes.
If you missed the hooded blanket trend that’s been all the rage for the past few years, now’s the time to check out the Oodie. The Oodies weighted blanket is as soft as the blanket itself, and is one of the softest, most comfortable weighted blankets we’ve come across (many weighted blankets feel rough to the touch). The weighted sections are made using our least favorite glass bead construction, which means that while you may hear a rustling sound, you’ll feel evenly distributed pressure thanks to individually stitched pockets, each filled with a specific number of beads.

Unlike other products on our list, the Oodie weighted blanket is not machine washable. But it is hand washable, allowing for spot cleaning to leave it perfectly fresh. Get ready for cosy nights in, with three sizes to choose from (the Oodie website has plenty of guides on how to choose the right size) and two colours to choose from (grey or blue).
Weighted blankets aren’t the easiest to move around – let’s be honest, even just trying to lift one off your bed and fold it up will leave you feeling like your workout is over for the day. So it’s a good idea to invest in a weighted blanket that you’ll be happy to display even if you don’t use it every day, and the Espa Weighted Blanket is just that. It’s made from 100% quilted cotton and has a nice look, complete with an embroidered logo on the bottom corner.
The cotton outer cover will keep you cool in the warmer months, while the quilted fabric is perfect for the colder months. The Espa Grey Cotton Weighted Blanket is only available in one colour but comes in four weights, the heaviest of which weighs 11.5kg – heavier than most of the products on our list. However, remember that you can only take up to 10% of your body weight with you, so take this into account when choosing.
Teddy fleece isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (it can get a bit warm), but if you like the feeling of being cuddled, this is a great material that will make you feel like you’re in a soft, cozy embrace. Brentford’s super-soft Teddy Fleece weighted blankets come in styles suitable for both kids and adults, and in a wide range of colors, so you’ll be able to find one to match most bedroom or living room color schemes.
The 6″ pockets are evenly stitched for even weight distribution and filled with micro glass beads. It may feel a little too warm in the summer, but on cold autumn and winter nights this 4kg, 6kg or 8kg weighted blanket will be enough to keep you cosy.
Weighted blankets are not only suitable for adults, but also for the little ones in your home. Although the Silentnight blanket is not guaranteed to prevent tantrums before bed, it is designed specifically for the little ones, can withstand up to 3 kg and is machine washable at 40 degrees. The cover is very soft and pleasant to the touch, and the filling consists of invisible beads sewn into the quilted fabric.
There are also weighted versions for adults – you don’t want the kids to have all the fun, do you? – and the size will change as you go up in weight. For example, if you’re looking for a weighted blanket to snuggle up with your partner in a king-size bed, the 9kg blanket is ideal. For the kids’ version, go for the 3kg one.
We’re not going to pretend that all the weighted blankets in this guide are stylish enough to deserve a spot on your couch. That’s not to say they’re bad or not worth buying for the extra comfort. But what if you could find something that felt like a regular blanket, rather than a cross between a duvet and a sleeping bag? Enter Sommio. Sommio’s blankets don’t use glass beads, and instead get their weight from the fabric itself. Each blanket is 100% cotton and hand-woven, with layers of cotton added for extra weight. The results? A soft, cozy, quiet blanket that looks like it belongs on your couch.
That’s not to say this blanket doesn’t have its downsides. It’s really hard to clean (we used one during the pandemic and had to put it away completely when there was a risk of infection around us). Plus, if you want to put it in a cupboard, it’ll take up a lot of space. That being said, most weighted blankets are about the same, so we wouldn’t say any of them aren’t worth the investment.
Remy is undoubtedly one of the most well-known brands when it comes to weighted blankets, and for good reason – its weighted blankets, or weighted duvets as the brand calls them, are of exceptional quality, and we have seen this for ourselves. The Remy Airy Sleeper Blanket is available in three weights and has a 100% bamboo cover that will keep you cool even in the warmer months. We even used it in temperatures as low as -30 degrees, and it felt great.
The Remy Airy Sleeper is not a duvet over a traditional duvet, but a duvet replacement made from a high-quality, breathable material. You can purchase a thermal cover separately for the colder months, and the unique Dreamzip Tech 360-degree zip system makes it easy to put on and take off, and it’s also convenient to clean the cover or change the colour. The cover is machine washable, but the weighted blanket itself is heavy and not recommended for machine washing. Covers are available in a range of colours and come with a 100-night trial period.
The Cosi Home Weighted Cotton Blanket has a nine-layer construction with tiny sewn-in support points to distribute the weight evenly. The minimum weight is just 3.2 kg, making it the perfect choice for those looking for a lightweight feel. What’s even better is that it’s machine washable, making it even more practical, and can also be dry cleaned or hand washed even with minor stains. When you’re away from home, you simply won’t be able to sleep without the comforting weight of the blanket wrapped around your body, and it even comes with a handy carry bag so you can sleep peacefully on the go.
The product is made from 100% cotton and has a soft and cosy fleece cover that feels great against your skin. One side also has a raised, circular texture that resembles bubble wrap (but only in appearance). This accessory is very popular as it allows you to secure the weighted blanket itself (using special cable ties) inside the cover, saving you from having to put the heavy blanket straight into the washing machine. This makes it more practical than many competitors, providing extra protection from accidental spills and/or pets.
