South Australia will receive $8.9 million under the Australian Government’s Road Crash Recovery Program 2024-25 to improve safety at 13 black spots across the state.
The programme provides funding for security measures in locations where a number of serious incidents are known to have occurred or are at risk of occurring.
Safety improvements funded as part of the latest phase of work include new roundabouts, safety barriers, improved markings and barrier-free crossings.
The Department of Infrastructure and Transport said the 13 crash recovery projects would make a “significant contribution” to reducing serious deaths and injuries on South Australian roads, where 117 people died in 2023.
The Black Sites Advisory Group provides stakeholders with a voice in the project selection process and ensures that projects of the highest priority and importance to local communities are recommended for approval.
The South Australian Advisory Group includes representatives from the Australian Road Traffic Management Association, South Australian Police, the South Australian Freight Council, the South Australian Cyclists’ Association, the Local Government Association and the Royal Automobile Association.
